Family policies
What families ask us before a child starts.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A child with a fever, vomiting or a contagious illness stays home and comes back after being well for a full day. If a child becomes ill at school, we call you right away and ask you to come promptly. A teacher stays with the child until you arrive.
Drop-off and pickup
We release a child only to the adults on the pickup list you give us, and we ask for ID at the door until we know you. Tell us ahead of time when someone new is coming.
Late pickup
Half-day pickup is at 12:30 p.m. and school-day pickup is at 3:30 p.m. If you are running late, call or text the school so a teacher can stay with your child. We talk with families about repeated late pickups, and the enrollment agreement says what follows.
Meals, snacks and allergies
Families send lunch and a water bottle on the school day. The school serves a morning snack of fruit and crackers, and children serve themselves. Tell us about allergies at the tour; we ask privately once you enroll. We ask families not to send nuts.
What to wear and bring
Send play clothes that can get wet, muddy or painted, closed shoes for the yard, a sun hat in summer and a spare set of clothes in a labeled bag.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for the usual holidays and for a few days in late November and late December. If heat, a storm or a power cut closes the school, we email and text families early in the morning.
Screens and phones
There are no screens in the rooms. We ask families to keep phones away at drop-off and pickup too, so the doorway stays calm for the children.
Leaving the program
We ask for a month's written notice before a child leaves, so we can offer the place to a family on the waitlist. The enrollment agreement explains what happens to a month in progress.
Questions about a policy?
Ask us on a tour, or write to us, and we will explain how it works in the room.
