A play-based preschool for ages 2 to 5

A preschool where the day is mostly play

Pecan Grove is a small preschool in Warner Robins with three rooms. Children build, dig, paint and pretend for most of the day, and every summer week has a theme of its own.

Safety routines

  • Arrival and pickup

A teacher greets every child at the door and signs them in. At pickup a child goes only with the people on your list, and we ask for ID at the door until we know you.

  • Headcounts

We count the children at arrival, when we go out to the yard, when we come in, and at pickup. One teacher counts and a second confirms.

  • Heat, sun and water

In summer, outdoor play happens in the morning and in the shade, children wear hats, and water bottles go everywhere. When it is too hot, the yard moves indoors. An adult stays at every water basin.

  • Allergies and snacks

Tell us about allergies at the tour; we ask privately once you enroll. We ask families not to send nuts, and snack is served at the table with a teacher beside the children.

  • When a child is ill

A child with a fever or a contagious illness stays home. If a child becomes ill at school, we call you right away and a teacher stays close until you arrive.

  • Madeleine Barron, lead teacher in the threes room, beside a shelf of baskets and blocks

    Madeleine Barron

    Lead teacher, threes room

Madeleine sets up the threes room each morning with open-ended things to build with and pretend with, then plays alongside the children and follows their lead.

  • Anoop Chacko, summer program lead, at a low art table with brushes

    Anoop Chacko

    Summer program lead

Anoop plans the six summer weeks and floats between the rooms during the school year. He keeps a box of puppets, a water table and a lot of clay.

What families ask us

What ages and hours do you have?

We have a room for 2-year-olds, a room for 3-year-olds and a room for 4-year-olds. Children come for a half day, three mornings a week, or the school day, and the building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

How does a tour work?

Tours are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings while the rooms are busy. You see each room, meet the teachers and ask what you like. Children are welcome to come along, and a tour takes about an hour.

What sets tuition?

Your child's room, the schedule you pick and whether your child comes in the school year or the summer weeks. We don't print figures on this site; we go through them with you on the tour.

Is the school licensed, and what are the ratios?

Pecan Grove is licensed by DECAL, Georgia's early care and learning agency. The license line is at the foot of every page, and each room has a set number of adults for its age group and a limit on its group size.

Does my child need to use the toilet on their own?

In the twos room, teachers help children who are still learning. In the threes and fours rooms, children use the toilet on their own with a teacher close by, because the group is larger. If your child is still learning, tell us on the tour and we will talk it through together.

What happens on a hard day?

Every child has hard moments. A teacher gets down to the child's level, stays close and offers a quiet place and words for what is happening. We tell you about it at pickup, and we talk with you if it keeps happening.

See a morning for yourself
